From the Chairman FROM THE CHAIRMAN:
St. John’s Rehabilitation Center is a unique Non-Government Organization made up of individuals and groups committed to elimination of tobacco use, illegal drug use, and campaign against the spread of HIV. As a result of widespread incident of tobacco related diseases , HIV and social disharmony caused by this three: Tobacco HIV infection and drug abuse. We mobilize communities and schools to take action to protect their health especially from HIV, drug abuse and Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS).
ST. John’s founded in 1997, at Mbaise in Imo State of Nigeria, has flourished as a regional organization across West African by organizing international conference that spans across the West African Coast. It feels a sense of privilege and pride to be part of a growing worldwide network of public health activists who are making real impact in cancer and HIV reduction in all its ramifications. We at St. John’s are never so inspired and hopeful as when we are carrying out enlightenment campaign on the relationship between tobacco smoking and cancer development, ways of minimizing the spread of HIV or interacting and exchanging on how to minimized drug problem in our society.
These colleagues, linked by the amazing modern technology of electronic mail make networking a powerful tool in cancer, HIV and drug prevention – (global link). Health activists around the world now connect and co-operate with each other in sharing information relevant to cancer prevention.
We have used information dissemination as a powerful tool to reach our target group, the youths on the implications of tobacco smoking with respect to cancer development and prevention. Of HIV and drug abuse.
St. John’s has become a household name, if not the premier organization in West Coast of Africa, campaigning aggressively against tobacco smoking HIV infection and drug abusevespecially among youths. We follow directly tobacco companies advert strategy, which is focused on the youth as their target group. We counter it through proper enlightenment campaign on the adverse effects of tobacco smoking such as development of lung cancer, throat cancer and some other tobacco related diseases.
We are proud of our achievements since 1997, especially in the drop in tobacco smoking among the youths – (school children) which has a direct result in future cancer reduction. We present snap short of what we at St. John’s have done recently in cancer, drug and HIV prevention. We invite you to contact us by E-mail, fax or snail mail current development in our work both in Nigeria the West coast in general.
